New control concept for Alber push aid | 14 of April 2011 | By: RE

Ulrich Alber GmbH is now offering a new control concept for its push and brake viamobil eco. A simple push of the thumb drives the viamobil in the direction required. A newly developed control unit makes this possible.

The viamobil eco has so far been available with the innovative ErgoDrive concept: when the handlebar is pressed downwards – which happens automatically when pushing a wheelchair – the drive takes up operation and pushes the wheelchair at the preset speed. There is now an alternative to this for customers.

Thumbs on . . .
With the new operation concept, the ergonomically shaped drive lever on the control unit is simply pressed using the thumb and the drive is activated. All the carer has to do is set the direction and is then able to undertake longer walks with the wheelchair occupant without fatigue. In comparison to the existing ErgoDrive concept, the rigid steering column in this version of the viamobil makes it easier to overcome obstacles, e.g. kerbs.

All functions controlled using a hand wheel
The viamobil eco’s new control unit has also been consciously designed to keep it as simple as possible for the mostly older users to operate. All functions are set using the large hand wheel: switching on and off, presetting the desired speed and activating free rolling.

Easily attached to wheelchair
viamobil eco can be attached to any standard wheelchair. Thanks to a newly developed coupling system it is extremely easy to mount. The carer can couple the viamobil eco to the wheelchair within just a few seconds prior to going for a walk and remove it just as easily afterwards. The Alber scalamobil stair climber, incidentally, also fits the wheelchair bracket of the viamobil eco.
